At the April 7, 2008, Annual Town Meeting, the Community Preservation article funded the Annual Town Report Preservation Project.  This project provided the mechanism to make readily available all Annual Town Reports from 1860 to present.  The contents of each report were microfilmed, indexed by year in a PDF format, and then burned onto CDs.  These Annual Town Reports are now available online.

The Annual Town Reports are a valuable tool for historical researchers, genealogists, town officials and departments, and the residents of our community.  Financial documents and audits; lists and reports of various boards, departments and committees; historical and vital events; town warrants; town meeting actions and election results are all searchable at the touch of a finger.

Additionally, this project ensures that the history of Kingston will be permanently preserved for generations to come.  Paper documents will be handled less frequently and the report volumes will be protected from further environmental destruction.  Microfilming is the preferred method for backing up records that require permanent retention.

This project was voted at the 2008 Annual Town Meeting and was funded by the Community Preservation Fund.  Hard copies are available for reading at the Kingston Public Library, Local History Room, and the Town Clerk's Office.

Special thanks to the Community Preservation Committee, Library Director Sia Stewart and Library Archivist Susan Aprill for their assistance in making this project possible.
