Planning, Zoning, Master Plan:
To make careful studies;       
To prepare plans of the resources, possibilities and needs of the city or town; 
To report annually to the town meeting regarding the condition of the town;     
To make a master or study plan; 
To review and submit a report regarding the layout, alteration. relocation or discontinuance of public ways.

The Town of Kingston adopted Zoning Bylaws in Dec 6, 1954 and created a Planning Board on March 19, 1955. In 1995 Town Meeting created the Master Plan Committee to update the 1970 Master Plan. Upon adoption of the updated Plan in 1998 the Planning Board created the Master Plan Implementation Committee (MPIC) to implement the recommendations of the Plan.

The Kingston Planning Board reviews and approves site plans and subdivisions and acts as the Special Permit Granting Authority for particular uses in the Town of Kingston Zoning Bylaws.

The Planning Board comprises five elected members each serving five-year terms and one appointed alternate member who serves a three-year term.

The Planning Board meetings are held the second and fourth Mondays at the Kingston Town House - Room 200 and begin at 7:00 p.m. Appointments before the Planning Board are made through the Planning Office.

The Planning Office staffs the Planning Board and the MPIC and assists the Zoning Board of Appeals, Economic Development Commission and the Historic Commission. The Planning Office strives to provide timely and accurate information and guidance to constituents and decision makers regarding Land Use, Housing, Economic Development, Natural and Cultural Resources, Open Space and Recreation, Public Services and Facilities, and Circulation and Transportation.
